How would you feel if you were told that you werent allowed to get married or your marriage was terminated (depending on whether youre married or not)? Im guessing you wouldnt feel very good. Proposition 8 is proposing to ban gay marriage in California. If youre are not gay this obviously doesnt apply to you, but the point of my question was to show you how homosexuals would feel if this happened. Marriage is very important to a lot of people and I think everyone should be able to do marry. We need to have no hate and vote no on 8 because everyone is equal, we should change the definition of marriage, not the constitution. I also know theres a large percent of people that are homophobic due to their religion, and I think they should know that theres no reason to hate or fear homosexuals.
Everyone is equal in this country. This country was founded on the fact that people should be treated equally, and built on equality and freedom. No one should be able to single out a large group of human beings that represent one fourth or more of the population of this country. That group is homosexuals. Proposition 8 takes away that groups right, the right to marry. Saying homosexuals cant get married is like saying anyone who has brown eyes cant get married, or anyone with blonde hair cant dye it. It makes no sense. They wouldnt be as happy with their lives, and that is most definitely not equality. Like I said earlier, how would you feel if the right marry was taken away from you.
We should change the definition of marriage, not the constitution. Changing the constitution will give heterosexuals one set of rules and homosexuals another. The rules homosexuals would get would have less rights. Contradicting one of the very reasons this country was founded. For those of you who are voting yes on prop. 8, youre basically saying you would rather change the constitution than make an edit to one small definition. Thats a little on the weird side of all the opinions in the world. Why is one small definition so important anyway? It shouldnt matter to you. Nobody should be able to vote other peoples rights away, thats illogical and just not right.
I know there are quite a few people that are homophobic or dislike homosexuals due to their religion, and I would like to explain that theres no reason to. At a random point in someones life they start getting crushes as you might put it and find other people attractive. They dont get to choose their sexuality, they could like be anybody. If God, or whomever you believe in exists and they created humans, they also decided that humans start liking people of the opposite or same sex without choice, thus they made homosexuals too. Heres a quote from something I read on yahoo answers, this person really gets it. Some of you say they were not born like that. And I say why not ask them that? They never chose to like the same sex instead of opposite. They were born that way. Do you know a Christian who was gay and prayed and one day he became straight because Jesus healed them? He/she has a really good point. You just have to think about it and the pieces of the puzzle will all fall in place, and make sense to you. Anyway what Im saying is that everyone is the same. Theres no reason to hate, fear, dislike, think lower of etc, of anybody because were all the same, were all equal. Homosexuals are just like anybody else, they just like the same gender.
So remember, its only a definition. Change it, not the constitution. Changing the constitution would make the reason this country was founded pointless. In other words, youd be singling out a group and ending equality in California. Also, if youre homophobic, try and overcome your fear. Theres no reason to have it. Have no hate, no on 8.
